Until the year 1999, the Tribal Welfare Residential Schools were under the Management of APREI Society, Hyderabad.  The Andhra Pradesh Residential Educational Institutions Society was bifurcated into Andhra Pradesh Residential Educational Institutions Society and Andhra Pradesh Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society consequent on the issue of  G.O.Ms.No: 51 S.W (TW.Edn.I Dept.) dated 03-06-1998 and the latter came into existence w.e.f. 3.6.1998 to take care of enrolment and retention of tribal children and improvement in the quality of education imparted to them with Head Quarters at Hyderabad.  The Society shall be responsible for the effective management and running of the educational institutions entrusted to it from time to time.  It was registered as a Society under A.P. (Telangana Area) Public Societies Registration Act 1350 F (Act I of 1350F). It is now named as Gurukulam by the Government. The Society started functioning effectively from 1/6/99 after bifurcation from APREI Society
